Osteopathy – Just for Children was born out of a wish to provide your babies and children with their bodies functioning at their own optimum. Bodies functioning like this may make for happier and healthier children following into adulthood.

If the mechanical strains of childbirth, large bumps or severe illnesses alter the mechanics of the body, staying with us, it may alter our health.

When osteopaths examine babies, areas of tension are often found in the spine or head which are indications that the baby or child is uncomfortable. A baby may express their discomfort by crying and being unsettled or irritable. In a research study conducted by Clive Hayden into the effects of cranial osteopathic treatment on babies, some parents perceived the following changes in their child’s behaviour, reduced crying, improved sleep, less unsettled irritable behaviour and increased quiet happy spells. Hilary set up Saturday clinics for children to allow children of school age to come from further a field (Glossop, the Fylde etc.).

Osteopathy for Children

As an osteopath interested and passionate about child health, Hilary takes into account not only your child’s current health but also their development to date and the development yet to come. For example a baby who mouth breathes can change the anatomy of their palate and maxillary bones making it more narrow. This narrowness together with mouth breathing can then lead the child to be more prone to tonsillitis, ear infections and asthma. Hilary’s job as an osteopath is to help the anatomy to function better so that they can nose breathe more easily and gain a wider palate and therefore improve their overall health.

Hilary is interested in aiding and empowering parents to help their children whether it is  from how to handle a baby to aid development or showing you how to aid drainage of the middle ear or aiding progression of milestones. Hilary’s mantra is Happy, Healthy Developing Children.

The techniques Hilary uses to treat your child are very gentle but effective cranial sacral osteopathic techniques.
